Bucerias is a beachside town with nearly 12,000 full time residents, which swells to several times that amount in the winter. Bucerias means “Place of Divers,” although these days there are no coral reefs, but there are still oyster beds. Bucerias is nicknamed “BCrias” for the amount of Canadians from British Columbia that reside here in the winter. The North and South half of the town are divided by a dry river bed (except in summer when water flows through it) adorned by what the locals call “Puente del Beso” – the kissing bridge. You kiss for good luck when you walk over it. Both sides feature dozens of restaurants and shops, activities, nice sand beaches you can walk on for hours. The town itself sprawls inland a few kilometres but the main shopping and restaurant district extends 7 to 8 blocks wide by 3 to 4 blocks deep for each half of Bucerias, on the beach side of the highway.
Amenities include a brand new state of the art CMQ hospital, over 50 restaurants offering Thai, Japanese, Chinese, French, Italian, Mexican, Mediterranean, American, and more. There is a new Chedraui grocery store that offers gluten free options, several excellent bakeries, little corner stores, galleries, shops, Church’s, a charming center square where you can listen to music and shop from street vendors and food trucks. There is an artisan’s market near the center square that is great for souvenirs (open every day) and the Sunday market (up the dry riverbed) where about 400 street vendors sell everything to locals and visitors alike (fruits and veggies, keys, puppies, pots, flowers, clothing new and used, music, DVD’s, etc). Just a few minutes from Bucerias is the MEGA shopping plaza with several banks, a giant grocery store, department store, pharmacy, chiropractor, yoga classes, gelato, food court, Lake Fitness Center, GNC Health store, blinds store, clothing shops. There is stand up paddle boarding, seadooing, bike riding, horseback riding, ATVing, and many other activities. Once a week is the Bucerias Art Walk (November through April) that features 20 – 30 local artists, refreshments, and music. There are many festivals and special events, live music, and community organizations to keep you entertained. There are several gyms, yoga studios, spas, family doctors, clinics, dentists offices, and even a naturopathic doctor.
The average weather is 25 degrees Celsius (78 F) and sunny, with a slight breeze coming off the water. Typically November to June is a perfect 20 – 26 degrees Celsuis(68 to 80 F), and June/July to October is 30 – 34 degrees Celsius (88 to 96 F) and the humidity increases. Bucerias enjoys very little rain most of the year, instead it tends to rain mostly at night in the warm summer nights July – September.
Properties typically range from $80,000 homes and condos to multi million dollar beachfront or ocean view houses, as well as commercial real estate opportunities.
